October 22 Update From The Richard Cranes

Date: Wednesday, October 22, 2003

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:

As I postpone writing this letter more and more news accumulates - E-mail is not supposed to work that way. I'll try to be to the point.

Susana's accident:
In the first place I would like to ask you to pray with us for Susana. Over three weeks ago, she was in a car accident in which she bumped her head resulting in a concussion. At the beginning her injury was not taken too seriously, yet as the days and weeks progressed she continued to have headaches, so she has had to take a medical leave from Covenant College for this semester, and is now at home with us. She is under control with her medication, and she needs to rest, and continue to be supervised by the doctor. Needless to say all of this has been very upsetting to all of us. We are trusting in our merciful Father to heal her and strengthen her body and spirit so that in all of this God may be glorified.

Janette's wedding:
I have been waiting to send this E-mail until I had pictures of the wedding. They are posted on this web page (click here: http://mtwla.org/people/rcrane2-pl/oct03/ ). (Steve Lawton was the formal photographer - thanks again). Janette was very "radiant and glowing" and Joe was crying with emotion through the ceremony (as well as the rest of the family - with a bit of both). The ceremony and the reception were at the Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church, our home church now that we are in Miami. They had 8 groomsmen and 8 bridesmaids. Susana was the maid of honor and Daniel was one of the groomsmen. Two of the bridesmaids travelled from Chile to be at the wedding. My brother Frank and I performed the ceremony and Robyn's brother, Ron, preached. My brother in law Ray Lightcap and our friend Rich Ramsay also had a part in the ceremony - so there was no shortage of ministers!!.

Joe (Cogliandro) is in his second year at Covenant Seminary in St Louis, MO. Janette and Joe are living in an apartment where Janette is helping out working as a "Nanny" in exchange for room. Pray that they will continue to build a godly marriage and that Joe will continue to enjoy his theological studies.

Daniel's adjustment:
Thank you for your prayers for Daniel's adjustment to the change and the new school. He loves it here - he plays soccer more than he ever has before and he is getting straight "A's" in all his school work at Westminster Christian School. He gets a ride to and from school with Nicolas Ramsay.

Our Ministry:
I have set up my books into the FLET University office, and have been challenged academically in my work there. My job with them can be divided in four parts - (all in Spanish of course): 1) I have a stack of papers to grade every week from students from all over Latin America and the US. (this is the part I least enjoy, yet it is helping me to get to know the students) 2) I need to revise previous courses written for the second edition. I have just finished doing that with an Introduction to Psychology book that I and my colleagues in PEPP in Chile had written. Now I need to revise a book written by Dr. Larry Crabb, the Art of Counseling. 3) I need to create new courses. Right now I am developing a course on Crisis Counseling using Norman Wright's book as the basic textbook. 4) I give intensive courses in different parts of Latin America several times a year. I will be dictating two course in Bogota, Colombia from the 18th to the 22nd of November. The first one will be Crisis Counseling on a Master's level, and the second is an Introduction to Psychology for the bachelor's degree level. Pray that I may get the Crisis Counseling course done by that date. In January I will be returning to Cuba for some other courses there. These last two aspects of the work are the most enjoyable. I will soon be asked to also start putting these courses and others in the pastoral psychology field on WebCT. Richard Ramsay is leading the way in this.
