The people of Uruguay like to drink "mate". They carry their thermos under their arm and poor the hot water into a gourd that is half full of "yerba mate", a type of tea. The metal straw has a stainer at the bottom. In these pictures you can observe how the pastors and wives drink the tea while they wait in the street to get into the conference room, and while the lectures are taking place.

On Sunday we worshiped with brothers and sisters who are Armenian immigrants. It was a congregation of approximately 400. In the pictures you see pastor Pedro Lapadjián and his wife Elisabet, as well as Les Thompson and myself. I was impressed with the worship and the maturity and warmth of these brothers and sisters. They are making a difference in that country. Pedro is a well known evangelist and has written a book on the history of the evangelical church in Uruguay called "Huellas de una Iglesia" (Footprints of a church). In a country where 75% of marriages end up in divorce, this pastor says he has had to deal with only a handful of cases in his congregation.
