Robert and Amy BristolThe Bristol UpdateAugust 11, 2007Dear Praying Friends, Some people brought children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them... Mark 10 San Jose el Alto is a new neighborhood that is being built on a hill on the north side of Queretaro. Most of the families are of a lower economic status. The neighborhood is so new that there is no church building or church presence here. That is until Miguel Angel, a laywer, and his wife Tere became aquainted with it. Upon seeing it, they fell in love with the people and at the same time their hearts were quickened to speak the gospel to this neighborhod. So, they built their house here and began sharing Christ's love with their neighbors. Miguel's love for people is unending and he contacted the Dyes and asked them to help reach out to the people in San Jose by forming a children's ministry. Last year the Dye's and helpers from their church put on a VBS-like event once a month for the kids. This summer, we have been reaching out to them on Fridays through song, games, and a Bible story time. There will be one final large-event of the summer on Sept 1. Yesterday (Friday, Aug 10), we were short on workers. I (Amy) went by myself and left Robert at home nursing Sophia's chicken pox. But as with Gideon, God did wonders with small numbers. Even though we had only 3 workers per team in stead of 5, more children than ever showed up! There were 140 children and mothers total who heard the story of Jesus healing the paralytic. The kids were amazed when our story teller said, "Why do you think Jesus' first words to the paralytic were, 'Yours sins are forgiven'? It's because the sin in his heart was worse than his physical paralysis." As you end your busy time of seeing friends and family this summer and get ready to go back to school and work, please take a moment to pray for this neighborhood. Pray for the adults, their kids, and the many people doing construction on homes and roads. Though this neighborhood is new, we have already noticed gang symbols painted on walls and homes. Pray that the kids would not be drawn to these groups for their fellowship, but that they would participate in the events we have planned for them. And, pray that Christ's message of salvation would be made known, heard, and received.
