Osman & Janett Gutierrez

Letter from Gerry Gutierrez (Dad)

May 5, 2006

Dear Osman and Janett,

We just returned to the Andes Mountains from Lima, where Mommy had her monthly treatment for her cancer. As much as we rejoice in the good results of the treatments, there is a new wound in our hearts as we see how so many of the young people of our mentoring program who have gone to Lima to further their education...end up scattered like sheep without a shepherd. Or they end up in different churches that do not teach the reformed faith.

As I talk with other MTW missionaries from Cuzco, I find that they too share the same pain, as do the the missionaries from the north of Peru, whose young people from the churches of Cajamarca do not find a place to fellowship on Sundays. They are being lost. Because they are from the mountains, and are a bit shorter and a bit darker than the Lima folks, they don't feel comfortable in the existing churches.

Mr. Powlison and I think that if we could offer a place in Lima and a vision for these thriving mountain folks, that a ministry can be developed on the Coast that would have the potential of becoming the largest congregation of our denomination.

That is where you and Janett come into the picture. With your training and gifts, both of you are qualified to lead a group that can kick off a very exciting and rewarding ministry for the Lord and His kingdom.

The school year has just started again for 2006, and we have lost another bunch of people who have gone to the big, capital city of Lima. I pray and wish that you would hurry and come soon. Yes, I know that support is slow in coming, but recently there have been some missionaries who have resigned from MTW, who are back in the U.S. Whether they discerned that they had no call to the ministry or there was sin in their lives or they found it hard to serve, is not for us to figure out. But they have left many saints, who believe in missions, without a missionary to support and pray for. Perhaps you could fill the vacuum left by them in the hearts of their supporters and become their missionary instead.

Please feel free to share this letter with them, and we will pray that our Lord Himself may move their hearts to support you and to send you quickly to the field. In Lima, where one out of every three Peruvians lives, the need is great. You know that Marcos, Gardel, Fiorela, Elenita, and Carolay are praying for you to come to Lima to lead them in this vision. Señora Bertha and all her tribe just left us to go to Lima for good, and Flora and her teenagers are there too. They will be waiting for you as well.

Come soon. We will be only eight hours away from you to visit you and them.

Love, Dad
