News for Friends, Family, and Partners May 20, 2007 Dear Praying Friends, We wanted to give you an update on what has been happening here in Ecuador over the last few months and what is going on with our family. The McMahan family is doing well with William and Wendy finishing up their studies in the states and Whitney and Waverly set to finish their junior year in June. Thanks so much for praying for William and Amanda and Amanda’s family. Last month Amanda’s mom went to be with the Lord. William and Amanda were able to make 3 trips to visit her family over the last several months. Please pray for Amanda, William and Bud (Amanda’s dad) as they mourn the loss of Ellen. Wendy is majoring in Spanish and will be going to Guadalajara, Mexico for 5 weeks this summer. She will be helping out at an orphanage and taking 2 courses at a local university. Pray that she will have a great experience in Mexico and that God will continue to grow her in her faith. Pray that God will help Whitney and Waverly finish the school year strongly and that He will give them wisdom on where to go to college. Pray as well for them as many of their friends will be leaving to go back to the states for college or their parent’s home mission assignment. Whitney and Waverly will also be going to the states for a month this summer to visit friends and look at colleges. We will join them for part of that time, since Robin’s grandmother will celebrate her 100th birthday. We continue to be busy with several ministries. The savings and loan group we began at Grace church now has 26 participants. It is developing well, and the group leaders are doing a good job. We are continuing to teach a class at El Tejar, a Quichua church here in Quito, on how to plan a business for the glory of God. This is an eleven week course which has about 20-30 people each week. Robin is also teaching an intensive version of the course to a group of 8 here in our home. We are hoping to start some other savings and loan groups in Quito. Pray that the Lord would give us wisdom in starting new groups. Three weeks ago we were asked by the pastor at El Tejar to meet with two of his friends from Chimborazo about 4 hours south of here. These men are leaders of a cooperative (savings and loan group) that serves about 1700 members in a number of small communities. They invited us to come to their community and talk about our ministry. On Tuesday of this week we went on an adventure to a small Quichua community in Chimborazo and spent two days meeting with the board of their cooperative. We were warmly received and treated to cuy (guinea pig) three times in two days! The group seems very interested in what we are doing. Please pray for the future possibilities of doing an intensive training there using materials from the Chalmer’s Center. This week our friends Sandy Pollard, and Robert and Jeanne Smith from King’s Chapel PCA in Carrollton, GA are coming down to visit. Sandy will be teaching a piano course in Grace Church, with some assistance from Jeanne. Robert will be helping with some projects involving electricity- he is a master electrician in the US. We are looking forward to their visit, spending time with them, and showing them the work here in Quito. Pray for a safe and productive trip. This summer we will be having 3 work teams from the states. The first team will be working with a small Quichua church about 2 hours north of Quito. This will be the first time that this church has received a work team. Please pray for both the church and the visiting team, that they will have a good cultural and spiritual exchange. The other two teams will be working in Quito. Pray for us as we work out the rest of the details for all of these teams. We continue to be blessed by your ongoing prayers and financial support. It is a privilege to be a part of encouraging and growing the churches here in Quito, and Ecuador in general. We could not be here without your support. Blessings, Mike and Robin McMahan
