Dear Praying Friends,

We pray that this letter finds you well and enjoying God's grace in your life. After two months in Quito, we are getting well settled. Whitney and Waverly are enjoying school, Mike has begun Spanish classes, and Robin has begun to study Quichua. We are very thankful for your prayers and want to give you an update.

A couple of weeks ago, we had a great meeting with the session at one of the Presbyterian churches here in Quito. We wanted to talk with them about ministry opportunities for us and for them in the San Pablo church. They seemed receptive, and should be getting back to us soon. One of their elders has been sick in the hospital. Please pray for Carlos to get well. They are a small session, and depend heavily on him.

Next Monday we will be talking with the leadership of a Quichua church from the south of Quito about ministry possibilities. Some time ago they heard that we were coming to Quito with some new ministry ideas, and they are very excited to hear about possibilities of financial ministry in their church. Pray that God would be preparing them to reach their community through a reconciliation ministry.

There is at least one other Presbyterian church in the south of Quito that is also eager to hear about our ministry. Please pray that God would prepare us and them for a meeting together soon. In addition, another ministry outreach from La Gracia reformed church wants to hear about how we can partner with them. There are many opportunities, and we want to work where God wants us. Pray for discernment for us.

Last weekend we flew to Guayaquil to visit Rose of Sharon, and friends in El Fortin. We were glad to see a number of friends, and to catch up a bit. Saturday was a day full of eating! Everyone we visited wanted to feed us, and we could not possibly turn them down. There is a weekly Bible study outreach from Rose of Sharon in El Fortin, and it is exciting to see that it is growing. On Saturday afternoon, we also visited the Rose of Sharon youth group. What an encouragement it was to see Alex leading the group, and to see the continued growth of some of the youth who came to know Christ during our time in Guayaquil! Robin also helped her friend Mariana prepare the music for Sunday morning, and participated in leading the singing. It was also wonderful to hear Daniel preach on Sunday.

We are part of the Guayaquil Church Planting Committee, and are committing to visiting Guayaquil regularly to help in any way possible. Please pray for this committee, which is made up of missionaries and nationals, to find good ways to work together and really establish the three church plants in the Guayaquil area. We will have meetings in Guayaquil on October 6 and 7. Please pray that these meetings will be beneficial to all three churches. We hope to travel down on the 5th to visit the savings and loan group that continues to meet. We also hope to stay until late on the 8th to visit with more Rose of Sharon folks in Mapasingue.

As we mentioned, the girls are loving school. Waverly made the soccer team, and practices four days a week. She is also part of Guardians, a Christian service opportunity in which she receives discipling, and in turn begins to disciple a small group of middle school girls. Whitney got a significant part in the school play, which is called Those Three Ladies in the House on the Corner. It is about three older, slightly crazy ladies, and she is their doctor. Whitney's Christian service opportunity is volunteering at a local children's hospital. Both girls seem to be doing well in their classes, and have a really nice group of friends. In addition to school, they are an active part of the youth group at La Gracia church, and recently attended youth group at the English Fellowship Church.

Please also pray for our children who are in the US. William and Amanda seem to be doing great, especially since Amanda got a day job working at Covenant College. It sounds like Will's studies are going well, and he is enjoying married life. Wendy is working at the campus apartments at Georgia College and State University. She seems to be doing well in her classes, but has had some difficulties with roommate and health. She and her roommate decided to split up. Please pray for Wendy and her former roommate to renew their friendship. Also, Wendy has been sick on and off for about 3 weeks. Please pray that she will get well. She is finally taking an antibiotic which seems to be helping, but it has been very stressful.

Thank you so much for your prayers and financial giving. Without both we could not be here! We see so much that God has provided, and we see so many opportunities for ministry opening up. We are very grateful to our awesome God that He cares for all of us, and is never surprised by anything.

In Christ's Service,
