The McMahan Update
News for Friends, Family, and Partners
March 2, 2005
Dear Praying Friends,
We are so blessed to have you praying for us! In the past several weeks it
has come to our attention just how faithful some of you have been in praying
for us. We are blessed, humbled and honored. To God be the glory!
We want to let you know that an article we wrote about the work with savings
and loan groups in Guayaquil is featured in this quarter's Mandate, the
newsletter of Chalmer's Center for Economic Development. If you are
interested in seeing this Mandate, and have not already received one from
Chalmers, please let us know. We would be happy to snail-mail you a copy.
We are continuing training with the Chalmer's Center, participating in
online courses. Pray for us as we read more about holistic development from
a Christian perspective, as well as completing the assignments. It has been
great and challenging. Even as we aspire to take more of these ideas to
Ecuador, and train our Ecuadorian brothers and sisters, we need to have a
good handle on the material. Pray for us to be well-equipped to carry out
the work God has called us to do.
We are also giving thanks for God's direction for our daughter Wendy. She
was accepted this week at Georgia College and State University, Georgia's
liberal arts college in Milledgeville. After a recent visit to the campus,
Wendy decided that this was where she really wanted to go. We had been
praying that God would confirm this direction for her. We continue to pray
for God's provision of the necessary finances, and thank Him for them in
advance.
Today we go to Chestnut Mountain, GA for a missions conference at a church
that has faithfully and lovingly supported us since we left for the field.
We will be together until Friday, when Robin will leave for Salisbury, MD to
attend the missions conference at our home church, which has also faithfully
and lovingly supported since forever. We are sad to have to present the
ministry separately, but pray that God will give each of us His words. Pray
for us to be faithful to present His vision.
We are still waiting to hear about whether we have to attend pre-field
training in New York City this coming July. If we do, we will need to raise
about $9,000 in one-time support in order to attend. This training is held
only once a year, so if it is required of us, it will be very important to
go this year. Please pray with us for God's provision of the needed funds.
Please also pray for Robin's health. She has struggled with both a very bad
cold or flu and allergies. She finally seems to be better, but the allergy
issues have been draining.
Pray also for the girls as Mom and Dad travel over the next couple of weeks.
The girls will go when they can, but because of school, soccer and work,
their flexibility to travel is limited. The result is that they have been
staying alone sometimes. Thanks to a neighbor/church member/surrogate mom,
they are well cared for, and always have someone they can call for help.
However, it is still difficult to be separated so much.
We so appreciate your continued prayers. Please let us know how we can pray
for you as well. This helps us to feel more connected to you, too!
In Christ's Service,
Mike and Robin McMahan
