The McMahan Update
News for Friends, Family, and Partners
February 3, 2005
Dear Praying Friends,
We pray God's richest blessings on you all in this new year! We were
greatly blessed this year to see many family members at the holidays after
being out of the country for three years. We had an awesome trip, but were
happy to get "home" to Carrollton.
As soon as we got home, we left again for Mission to the World's Living in
Grace Conference. It was a wonderful time of spiritual renewal. We now
have follow up assignments that need to be completed. Please pray for us,
that God would be giving us a rich sense of who He is, and who we are in
Him. He has been doing a work of repentance in us that is at once hard and
freeing.
Mike then went to Salisbury, MD to visit with supporters. He had a great
visit, and enjoyed their snow, while we girls were all iced in here in
Georgia. Please pray for Mike's follow-up with new contacts made.
Now, we are beginning the missions conference season, and we will be on the
road quite a bit. Thanks to God's provision of a house here in Georgia, our
trips will be shorter than that 3 month trip we were on several years ago!
This weekend we travel to Jackson, MS with Whitney and Waverly. We will all
be sharing with our friends at Highlands PC, and renewing relationships.
Please pray especially for Whitney and Waverly, who will be interviewed
about their experiences in Ecuador. They are very excited about the
opportunity to talk to other kids about their experiences. Pray also for
Wendy, who will stay in Carrollton.
Next weekend we will be in Macon, GA at First Presbyterian for their
missions conference. Pray for a good time of sharing. Please also pray for
the girls, who will probably stay behind in Carrollton because of school.
Then, in March things get a bit crazy. We will have to divide and conquer!
Mike will go to one conference, and Robin to the other two weekends in a
row! The first week, Mike will go to a church in the Atlanta area, and
Robin will travel to our home church in Salisbury, MD. The next week, we
still have to figure out the division of labor, but one of us will be here
for King's Chapel's conference, while one of us goes to Community Pres in
Moody, AL. Then, we will travel to Montgomery to Eastwood PCA for their
conference. We are very excited about getting to renew so many
relationships, but please pray for us to be rested during all this travel.
We are glad to tell you that three new churches have agreed to support the
work in Ecuador. Their support brings us to about 60% of what we need in
monthly support to return to the field. We will also still need about
$15,000 for one-time costs, which include pre-field training, travel and
initial setup fees on the field. The Bible says, "Faithful is He who calls
you, and He also will bring it to pass." (1 Thessalonians 5:24) We have
committed our way to the Lord, and are trusting in Him to do it. (See Psalm
37:5)
You may ask, "When will you go back to Ecuador?" Our desire would be to
return in August. However, this is completely dependent on God's timing,
and provision of all needed support. If we do not leave in August, we will
probably leave in December or January, due to schooling issues for Whitney
and Waverly. Please pray for God's provision and wisdom regarding His
timing.
By the way, William is doing great at Covenant College. He loves it and is
being blessed by good teaching. Please pray for him in his studies. He
still plans to study engineering, but is also very interested in Community
Development as a dual major. Also, pray that God would provide someone to
disciple him and hold him accountable. Actually, we would all ask for a
relationship like that! And while I am thinking about it, please pray for
Wendy as she makes decisions about where she will be next year. She has
applied to several colleges and universities, and will need to make some
hard decisions. Pray that God would guide her in His wisdom, not ours!
Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and financial gifts. Whenever
someone tells us that they have been praying for us, it means so much. God
really does use your prayers to encourage and strengthen us. We also love
hearing from you. Please also let us know how we can pray for you.
In Christ's Service,
Mike and Robin McMahan
and Wendy, Whitney and Waverly (William, too!)
