Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We hope that this letter finds you well. The first thing we would like to do is say a heartfelt thanks to all of you that have been supporting us in so many different ways. As we have traveled thousands of miles in the last few months we have indeed known God's love and grace through you. We are humbly grateful to our Lord for all of you that partner with us in bringing the good news of Christ to the Quechua. Please know that we pray for you also.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS SUMMER

The biggest thing that we did this summer was to attend our cross cultural training in New York City during the month of July. God showed Himself loving and powerful in every circumstance including being out on the street our first night in the city due to a mix up with our landlady regarding the date of our arrival. However, after a few somewhat nerve wracking hours on the street we took a taxi to a hotel for the night. We wondered if MTW had planned this as part of our training. That was only the beginning of a great time of learning and growth. Some of the things that we learned were in a classroom setting, however, many were outside the classroom in our neighborhood. The topics covered ranged from how to learn a language to how to deal with conflict when it arises.

We also had the opportunity to attend and assist a Spanish speaking church. This included doing street evangelism and also participating in a street ministry called a Prayer Station where anyone who desired prayer could come to a table set up on the street for prayer. We also helped serve in a soup kitchen located in the church. We participated in all these ministries as a family and it was great to see our girls reaching out to people in so many diverse situations. It was very stretching and we saw God's handiwork in all that we encountered.

Overall, our time in the Big Apple showed us once again that when we are weak is when God shows His power the most. We had many fears about going to New York City and felt very ill equipped at times to deal with the situations we were faced with, but we saw God's faithfulness over and over again.

Another highlight of our summer was being able to visit with many of you as we continued on our journey to Peru while raising our support. The miles continue to mount up on our van as God continues to guide us on our way. We spent time in Connecticut, upstate New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware before heading back to North Carolina for a short respite before heading out again. We continue to be amazed at the depth and breadth of Christ's body as we meet and talk with so many. It is very encouraging to see God putting His team together to reach the Quechua with the truth of His word.

Towards the end of the summer the dedication of the New Testament in the North Conchucos dialect of Quechua was held. It is so exciting to hold this book in our hands and realize that by God's grace it is the culmination of 17 years of work by Jim and Ellen Wroughton. We are expectantly looking to God for the harvest that will surely come as the half million North Conchucos Quechua speakers hear and are taught God's word in their heart language.

WHAT LIES AHEAD

God's timing is always perfect and we continually must remind ourselves of that as we press on in finishing up this time of support raising. We are currently at approximately 80% and are rejoicing. We have a very busy schedule over the next few months (for which we are very thankful) visiting churches in Maryland, Delaware, New York, and wherever else the Lord may lead.

Mackenzie & Lynae with Maggie and Sarina

Just a note to update you on the girls. They seem to be doing really well in spite of all the constant changes. They are enjoying school at the Rockwell Academy (the name of our homeschool) and are learning to be flexible and adaptable.

PRAISE AND PRAYER

  • Praise for safety and good health as we have traveled thousands of miles. Prayer for this to continue.
  • Praise for 80% of our support being raised. Prayer for the remaining 20% by Thanksgiving, if God wills.
  • Praise for the completion and dedication of the New Testament in the North Conchucos dialect of Quechua. Prayer that as the seeds of God's word are sown in the hearts of the half million North Conchucos Quechua that it would bear much fruit that would remain.
  • Some of you may already know this, but on September 9th one of our friends and team mates, Don Williams, was shot to death in his home in Opelika, Alabama. Don and Terry have served for almost 30 years on the mission field in Brazil and Colombia, and they were currently the team leaders in Ecuador. Pray that God would use his death to bring many into the kingdom and bring much glory to Himself.

We leave you with this verse which sums up the whole reason why we do everything we do. "He (God) made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." 2 Corinthians 5:21 This is truly good news and we desire to share it with all those around us. Thank you for being partners with us in the great commission from our Lord to go and make disciples of all nations. We truly couldn't do it without you.

In His service and for His glory,

Larry, Sandy, Lynae and Mackenzie
