"With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ." February 9, 2005 ...The Word of the Lord... - - - - - 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
...Glorified in Jesus...
It says "that the name of OUR LORD JESUS may be glorified in you", i.e. me, NOT that I might be glorified in myself and among others. God has revealed himself to me these past few weeks, and for that I am (again) immensely grateful. As unpleasant as it is (and sometimes downright painful), God always uses trials to deepen my faith, trust, and peace in him.
I don't want to go into too much personal detail here, but I do want to share one thing. At times when I face trials, or "failures", the voice of the enemy starts accusing. I recognize the many ways in which I fail, have failed, am failing... I recognize my sin... its not even that the accusations are false, its just that THAT IS NOT THE VOICE OF GOD. God has claimed me for his chosen child, and my "failures", my sins, have been paid for. I stand before him precious in his sight, not because of anything good in me, but ONLY because of the goodness and work and righteousness of Jesus Christ. It does not matter what anyone else thinks....it matters what God thinks, and what he has done. If only one major point or thought comes across to any of you reading this prayer letter, I hope it is that each chosen child of God is worthy in his sight. And that is enough. Let his joy and goodness flow over each of you as you remember that you have been bought and paid for, that God is delighted with you (no matter how you feel about yourself), and that NOTHING will snatch you out of his hand. ...The Weeks Ahead...
I ask for your prayers, especially in the weeks ahead. In the next three week, I will visit six cities, speak during three missions conferences, have three interviews for support with three new churches, and attend a missionary lunch at a seminary (to recruit!). Please pray that God will speak through me as I share about Peru and his work there, that I will have safety on the road (my beloved old car, airplanes, rental cars, etc), and that God will take care of my health and stamina.
Thank you for your prayers. In answer to prayer requests from my last letter in December, (1) my mind HAS been more clear for my seminary class, although finding time for it has been HARD, (2) I am working bit by bit to pay off the debt, (3) praise God for the opportunity to interview with 3 new churches, and to be able to visit those churches who are currently supporting God's work in Peru through me. ...Always a Story...
I don't have any great Peru stories since I'm not there, :) but I can pass on a few things that have been happening down there since I left in October: (1) the two girls are still studying English, (2) Marcia is pregnant with #5, (3) Lucy Flores obtained her fiancÈ visa and is in Greenville SC with a wedding date in March, (4) the tutoring continues using the Spanish books from my supporters, (5) our new doctor and his family have arrived in Cusco and are putting the plan for health ministries in to action, (6) our church plant in Santa Monica is thriving (7) Lucy Jane the cat cut her foot deeply, requiring stitches and much babying, but is doing well now and almost back to herself, thanks to our wonderful interns who are caring for her.
I miss being a part of the work in Peru and am already a bit anxious to get back, although I know there is a long road ahead for me in the U.S. Much love and blessings, Laura
