"Do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his
prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of
God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of
anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace."September 17, 2004 ...The Word of the Lord... - - - - - - - II Timothy 1:8-9
"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kids of prayers and
requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all
the saints. Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be
given to me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,
for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it
fearlessly, as I should."
...Support Comes in Many Forms...
I have had several (quite a few actually) responses to my last prayer
letter of people who were a bit confused by what is going on with my
schedule! I thought it would be a good idea to write and clarify that and
the process.
I originally applied for a two year term in Peru. I arrived in Peru (after 10 weeks in language school in Costa Rica) in November 2001. After two years, I, my team, and MTW all agreed that I would stay for a third year and my supporters were willing to continue supporting me for that third year. This past May 2004, I went through Readiness Evaluation and was approved to be an MTW Career Missionary. This will involve me coming home for around a year in order to raise support. So, I will be finishing up my 3 years here and returning to Atlanta in October 2004. I will be working to raise support for Career Missions, paying off some accumulated debt, and finishing that last elusive seminary course. There are several ways in which people can support me. Prayer, of course, is vital. Please never underestimate the power of prayer for the support raising process, my return to Peru, and for the work that God is doing here. If you are a current supporter, and prefer not to continue to support me, I give you my heartfelt THANKS for the years of support that you have given me that have enabled me to live and work here. If you are a current supporter, and would like to continue to support me in God's work here, you also have my heartfelt THANKS for the years of support! You will need to notify the MTW office that you will be continuing to support me. They will not assume that you are going to continue unless they hear from you! (details below). If you would like to start supporting me as a new supporter, whether with a one time give or monthly, below are the details as to how you can do that. So for both continuing supporters, and for new supporters, here is what you can do to notify the office of your intent and pledge. There are several ways:
(1) Email the office - seems to be the quickest and easiest way to let the
office know of your pledge. You can email Teresa Wood at:
(2) You can let me know that you want a "refrigerator card" (I
will be sending them to all of my financial supporters anyway when I get
home in October) and tear off the financial/prayer support card, fill it
in, and mail it in to MTW.
(3) You can send a written note to MTW at this address:
In your written note please be sure to include your full name, address, and
telephone number, as well as my name, missionary # 11748, and the amount
and frequency pledged (ex: $xx.00 monthly or $xx.00 one time gift etc).
As I mentioned in my last prayer letter, there are so many
things I will miss, and yet I do believe its time to come home for a while.
I SO look forward to seeing my many friends and family and to visiting
churches to share what we are about here. I LOVE talking about what God is
doing in Peru!!
I hope this helps. If any of you have questions about this,
PLEASE don't hesitate to write me and ask!!
