The Word of the Lord...

"So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life - not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus."
- - - - - II Timothy 1:8-10

...Its all about God...

I have 5 interns here in Cusco working with me through June and July. One of the first things I tried to tell them was this: It's not about you, and it's not about me; it's not even about the Peruvians. It's about God.

It's easy to talk about "my work" here in Cusco or "our work", but it is GOD'S work. We have been saved by his grace alone, and now we are working out our salvation with the good works that he has prepared beforehand for us to do.

Please pray for us as we experience these next 6 weeks together: for me, Alinda Guynes, Rebecca, Susanna, Michael, and Emily.

...Santo Tomas, here we come...

Friday morning June 25th a team of 26 people from Florida should step off an airplane into a chilly Cusco morning. Saturday morning June 26th this team plus me, missionaries, interns, and cooks will get on a bus (40 people) and head to Santo Tomas. I think everyone should experience the 10 hour bus ride through the switchbacks of the Andes Mountains on a bus with no bathroom at least once in their life. :) Builds character and all that!

We will arrive Saturday night in Santo Tomas (if all goes well!). Sunday will be a day of worship with our church in Santo Tomas, and a day of rest, fellowship, and acclimating to the even higher altitude. Monday through Wednesday the team will work in four different areas: Construction on the partially completed church building, VBS, medical/dental, and a cultural presentation on the US, aimed to attract non-believers and church members alike. Thursday we will spend the day traveling back to Cusco.

I will be overseeing the group and the cooking. Please pray for our travel safety, health (especially with the food we will be serving 40 people each meal!), and of course for God to be at work in the hearts of our group and the people of Santo Tomas.

...Getting Rev'd up for Career Missions...

I went home to the States in May in order to attend the Readiness Evaluation Process with MTW for Career Missions. I am happy to say that I have been approved by MTW to return to field as a Career Missionary. Woooohoooo! :)

I will be here in Cusco to complete my 3rd year of "two year" service until mid-October 2004. I will return to the States this October and start the process of raising funds and support to come back to the field. PLEASE pray for me along these lines. I am excited, tired, relieved, and overwhelmed - all at the same time.

Many of you had pledged financial support for my two year commitment, and then graciously extended that support for the third year. "THANK YOU" to each and every one of you who have been contributing to my presence and work here (God's work!) for these past 3 years. It would have been impossible without you all.

Please begin to pray if God would lead you to continue to support me as a Career Missionary at the end of this year. I will continue to provide details of how to pledge your support in the next few months.

...A Few of God's Children...

We received news on June 24th that we will be receiving our second "abandoned child" very soon. Elena Michelle was born 6/24/2004, weighing 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Her mother already has 3 children, and the "husband" has threatened to leave (taking their meager financial support with him) if she keeps this child. So she plans to abandon this child, but is giving us first choice to take her. Our first desire is always to see the family stay together, but this family does not want to work with us to keep the child, so Keith and Ruth Powlison will be caring for Elena until we can find a Peruvian family to take her in.

Please continue to pray for 11 year old Miguel Angel, too, whom we have taken in from an abusive home. He is currently living with a Peruvian family from our church in Pallpancay. It is a big adjustment for this family, and adoption of other people's children is NOT common in Peru. Please pray for the family (Emilio and Gregoria). They have 2 children of their own about Miguel Angel's age.

...Its Homework Time...

We have been having "Homework Time" twice a week since the middle of April. We generally have 7-10 kids coming, ages 7-14, and have two Peruvian adults helping. It has been a joy and delight to watch the older Peruvians teach the younger Peruvians. This includes the 2 Peruvian tutors, as well as the 12-14 year olds who help the younger kids. They do their homework, and when they are finished, they can read the Spanish books that my supporters bought and sent down with a team.

...Photos...

I have 12 or so photos set aside to scan - I hope to get this done on Friday the 25th before we leave for Santo Tomas. I will send the address for the photos in a separate email AS SOON AS I have it!!

Thank you all so much for your prayers, communication, encouragement, and support. I couldn't do this without you all.

God Bless,
