The Word of the Lord...

"O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; - - - - - - Psalm 63:1-5

...Paradox...

Mourning the death of a Christian is such a paradox. We know that our beloved is rejoicing with Christ, and yet we are left with a heavy and empty loss. Please continue to pray for all of us on the field as well as for Sean's family, as we continue to deal with the loss of our friend and brother.

...Santo Tomas...

A quick recap of our Santo Tomas adventure: A team of 26 arrived in Cusco on Friday morning the 25th of June, and we loaded up the bus on Saturday morning to head to Santo Tomas. Twenty six team members, 2 missionaries, 6 national workers, and 5 interns filled up our 39 seat bus. The team had 4 main ministries: dental, construction, VBS, and U.S. Cultural presentation. (Photos below!) They also taught leadership classes to members of the church. We brought our own cooks and food and almost no one got sick! That was a true triumph. The team worked long and hard, ministering to the people in each area in order to build up the local church and share the gospel.

During the cultural presentation, there was a time of questions and answers so that each side could get a sense of the other's culture. I was translating at one of the tables. The first question asked to my group: "What do you think about the social communism in Cuba?" Well guys, liberation theology still lives here. The people are unhappy with the government and the lack of work. Please pray for Peru, that God's Holy Spirit will cause revival in the hearts and lives of the people here, and also that God will be pleased to use us as a part of that process.

...Summer Medical Institute...

The week following the trip to Santo Tomas, my 5 interns and I helped out with SMI for 2 weeks. SMI is a group of Doctors, Nurses, and Students from Vanderbilt University that come to Cusco to minister, teach, and learn. We had some of our coldest weather so far during this trip! We made several day trips and one trip to Abancay.

The most heart wrenching thing for me was when a 14 year old boy in a dirty school uniform came up to us to say that his father was a drunk and he wanted to know if we had some pills that would make that go away (and beatings usually accompany the drunkenness). When we explained that those kinds of pills didn't exist, his face collapsed into tears. We talked to him for a while and found out that he is in an area where we have a small work starting. He promised us that he would visit our church work there.

The most fun part of SMI (for me) was visiting the Catholic children's home in a nearby town. I love watching kids abandon themselves to their play with a bunch of big gringos. :)

...A few more prayer requests...

We have had unusually cold weather this winter in Peru. Many towns have had snow and very low temperatures, causing their animals (food source) to die and the people to get sick. Most people in these areas wear the sandals made out of recycled tires and don't have adequate clothing for the extremely cold weather. We are planning an emergency trip Tuesday (the 27th) through Friday (the 30th) in order to distribute blankets, clothes, shoes and food in there areas and also to share the gospel. Please pray for us as we head out into this situation and into several small towns, that we would not only give physical help but spiritual help as well.

Also, those of you who know me will understand this request. :) My cat, Lucy Jane, left last Monday night and hasn't come home. I'm still hopeful, but she has never left for more than 2.5 days, and today is day number 5. Please pray that she will come home soon, safe and sound.
