"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling... The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge... Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge." Psalm 46: 1-3, 7, 10-11
The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge !!! He will be exalted among the nations!! What an incredible comfort and encouragement it is to read God's Word and know him!!
We have started a small Bible study on Thursday nights. We have several new believers that are attending. We are studying the Character of God. Most of us think that as we study the Bible and who God is, we start with man. But we need to start with God! It has been an incredible encouragement to me as I study in order to teach to be reminded that our God is totally Sovereign and totally Good, all powerful, all knowing, all present... That he KNOWS the best goal for his purposes and he HAS the wisdom and power to accomplish it in the BEST way possible!!!
Cusco is a popular tourist town in Peru for people from all over the world who want to see Macchu Piccu and other ancient Inca ruins. It is also an area that is heavily Catholic mixed with an influence of ancient Inca superstitions and witchcraft. Cusco is a spiritually dark place. I also believe it is a place that is ripe for the harvest, and a place that Satan would love to protect from God's work. Please continue to pray for me and for the Becks, Riedels, and Powlisons as we desire to serve the Lord here in Cusco! |
Manuel, the Peruvian teenager unjustly jailed in Lima, is now out of prison and living here in Cusco with Keith and Ruth Powlison. Praises to God for his deliverance! In many ways, his battle has just begun. Manuel is a former street boy, now 16 years old, who is trying to adjust and understand what it means to live with a real family. Please pray for Manuel and for the Powlisons and they learn, grow, and struggle together as a family.
Iquitos is a city of approximately 300,000 people at the start of the Amazon River in Peru. We took the 13 interns to Iquitos for a week as a part of their internship in July. Each morning we would board a boat (veeeeerrryy interesting!) and travel up the river to a church plant for VBS. The kids and adults would pack into the church building and we would sing, have a Bible story, games and craft. Please pray for Percin, the pastor in Iquitos, and for the churches in Iquitos! Iquitos has one of the worst slum areas I have seen in Peru, an area called Belen. Belen is on the river and people wash, drink, bathe, and use the same water for sewage. (Click on the web address for PHOTOS at the end of this email to see pictures of Santos Tomas and Iquitos!)
Emanuel is our small church plant in Santa Monica, the area in which we live in Cusco. (See PHOTOS for VBS pictures!) It is a wonderful church and Jorge, the elder in charge of Emanuel, is a good preacher of the word! We have gone from 1-2 children in Sunday school to 25-35 children in Sunday school in the last several months! We are running out of room! What a blessing. Please pray for Jorge to be a man on his knees before God and for God to continue to use him. Please pray for me and for the Becks as we work in and through this church plant!
Please continue to pray for Heber, the young Peruvian man who is working in the small remote town of Santo Tomas! (See the PHOTOS!) He is there by himself working with a church plant and could use your prayers and encouragement!! He has continued to visit the men in the jail, and has a weekly Bible study with them. Between 15-25 men are attending... I believe that is all the prisoners and some of the guards! | ||||||||

Heber is a good preacher and teacher of God's word and has such a heart for the prisoners and the people of Santo Tomas. Please keep him in your prayers! He loves it in Santo Tomas, but it is a lonely place to be without any team members. He is also interested in any clothes and shoes we can bring him from the States, so if you have extras (adults or children, male or female) that you can give me when I am home I will try to pack them in to take to him!
Once again, thank you all for making it possible for me to be here! I love my work here, I love my team here. God is definitely at work in Cusco, Peru. Please continue to pray for us daily as the enemy would love to see any work of God's destroyed. I am coming home in September for an MTW conference, and will also be visiting family, friends, and churches in GA and MS. I am hoping to see many of you when I am home!! It will be such an encouragement to me! Please take a moment and click on PHOTOS below to see 11 photos that were taken this summer in Santa Monica (where we live), Santo Tomas, and Iquitos. ENJOY!
