10 Days and Counting !!!

Saturday, August the 25th is still my current departure date - I have a plane ticket along with my teammate Sean! My teammates Mark and Lori Berry (in language school in Costa Rica) are making plans to pick us up from the San Jose airport. Its all becoming a reality!!

God’s Provision !!!

I am once again watching God provide. It looks like I have a wonderful home for my cats!!! Friends faithfully put the word out, and Kay Williamson Entrekin and her husband John are taking Molly and Otis into their Tucker, GA home for their two young daughters. They said they are delighted to support God’s mission work by taking my cats. Kay was a buddy of mine from Georgia Tech and former fellow cheerleader for the Yellow Jackets. Please pray for Kay and John as they take the cats in, and for the cats as they go through an adjustment period!!!

Costa Rica !!!

When I get to Costa Rica, I don't know how long it will take to get an internet connection or how good the service will be!!! I will be living with a Costa Rican family with two kids. They do speak English, but I understand they are very good about making their students speak Spanish!! I will be attending the Spanish Language Institute, or the Instituto de Lengua Espanol (I guess I'd better get used to this!!). My mailing address there will be:

Laura Deadwyler
Instituto de Lengua Espanol
Apartado 100 – 2350
San Jose, Costa Rica

I think mail is fairly reliable here, just in case anyone wants to send a letter or, you know, cookies or something. Not that I will be hurt if I don't get cookies. Just a suggestion. !! (Hey mom, there's a hint. Hey Nancy L., you might want to forward this to your mom and dad in case they want to make me some more cookies!!!) And I'm sure the rest of you wouldn't want to be outdone. - haha.

A One Time Opportunity !!!

It looks like I will have the opportunity to attend the Street Child Conference in Campinas, Brazil the week of September 17-21, 2001. MTW is getting more and more involved in ministering to street kids around the world, and this conference will provide some foundational training we need as we seek to understand the issues with street kids. Several of my teammates from Lima as well as staff members from MTW will attend. Steve Bartel will be the main speaker, along with Don Williams who is a Reactive Attachment Disorder Specialist and Dr. Lauren Bethell who is a Children at Risk specialist. My Peruvian team leader/pastor and his wife (Santos and Norma Buendia) will also be there.

Prayers !!!

Please continue to pray for my total dependence on God. Also for details, house rental, language, travel, safety, health, mental alertness in learning, Street Kids conference, adaptation to different cultures, my team.
