Belize Hurricane Felix
September 2, 2007
“For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all the gods. In whose
hands are the depths of the earth; the peaks of the mountains are His also.
The sea is His, for it was He who made it; and His hands formed the dry
land. Come let us worship ad bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our
Maker.” Psalm 95:3-6
As most of you have probably heard, Belize is in the direct path of another
hurricane, Hurricane Felix. Hurricane Felix is now a category five and is
projected to hit Belize Wednesday [9/5].
Tonight, when we were driving home from church, we received word that the
hurricane was now a category five. Just hearing that news made my head begin
to hurt. I am exhausted. I am tired from preparing for Hurricane Dean and
then cleaning up after the storm. Just last week we worked to put our
classrooms back together at the school. Since the day after the Hurricane
Dean hit people have been working to put back together their homes, repair
their roofs and piece their lives back together. And now we are faced with
another storm. Selfishly I pray that it doesn’t come our way. I pray that it
dies out and disappears. I don’t want to re-board up our windows. I don’t
want to pack up all my things. I don’t want to go out and buy candles and
water. I don’t want to take my classroom apart again. But then I stop and
think about those people who still don’t have a roof, or much worse a house,
and I realize how much I really have to be thankful for.
Through all of this I know that our God is a sovereign God. It is He who
created the storm, and He will perfectly direct its path. If it is His will
for the storm to hit Belize than there is nothing we can do to stop it.
I would ask you to keep Belize in your prayers. Pray for the people that are
homeless at this point and trying to get back on their feet. Pray for the
families whose crops were all destroyed and who have no source of income.
Pray for the government that they would be given wisdom as they deal with
the consequences of the storms. And also please pray for me. Pray that God
will give me strength to keep on pressing on. Pray that I will keep my eyes
focused on Him and not forget that His plan is perfect.
Thank you, prayer warriors. I will try my best to keep you posted as to what
is going on here.
In Christ,
Julie
