Helmly HMA Update - August 30, 2005

Dear friends,

We know Hurricane Katrina is a major event in the lives of many today. This storm causes me to pray not only for the victims who must deal with loss of life and property, but also for the physical and emotional energy of those who offer assistance after the storm. This reminds me of my need to pray for those who live in spiritual turmoil, as well as those missionaries who are seeking to lend aid. Thank you for your prayers for us while we were in Quito and now while we are stateside.

This is a time of 'respite' for us - however, there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes!!

I (Darlene) was given the privilege of joining a team of MTW assessors to help determine the 'readiness' of potential missionary candidates. That week was simply amazing - challenging and confirming at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting some refugees from Somalia and watching how World Relief is instrumental in helping refugees from various countries resettle and learn how to get around Atlanta.

Frank and I are also working hard to get our presentations together. We ventured into the world of PowerPoint and tried our first presentation last night. It had some glitches, but we are grateful we are years beyond the old "missionary slideshow!"

We are settling into Augusta and sharing a luxurious home with good friends. They are on the go almost as often as we are! Their residence is up for sale so we pray the Lord supplies the buyer in His perfect timing... and yet selfishly hope His timing is not too soon!

Our "job" through the end of the year is to report to our donor churches. And it has been very enjoyable to be with 5 of our supporting churches thus far. It is so good to make new friends and see old friends who have been so supportive while we have been away. I am constantly amazed at how quickly their children have grown!

Here is our calendar for September. It is a busy month! We will be traveling quite a bit and would ask for prayer for safety on the road as well as mutually encouraging times with those we will be able to visit. Feel free to send e-mail - it will be easier to check now that Frank put a wireless card into our computer! It's been fun finding those free "Wi-Fi" spots to check email!
