Pohl’s Ecuador Update April 2007
Dear Friends & Family,
As we write this Saturday morning before Easter, we are mindful of God’s most precious gift to all who believe – Jesus Christ, our once crucified and now risen Lord and Savior. We are also very mindful of His gift to us in you – our friends and family who continually lift us up with your love, encouragement and prayers! Today, we pray for you that God would work His will in your lives as the writer to the Hebrews prayed:
who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep,
equip you with everything good for doing his will,
and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.
(Hebrews 13:20-21 NIV)
After a recent visit to the coast, Craig praises God for the new growth and developing leadership in “Gracia Eterna” (Eternal Grace) Presbyterian Church in Guayaquil. Please pray that many new members and regular attendees would be welcomed and fully integrated into the congregation. Pray also as the church seeks to discern God’s vision for reaching Guayaquil – Ecuador’s largest city – for Christ!
Late April and early May will be brimming with ministry at a partner church: Sembradores de Cristo (Sowers for Christ) Quichua Church. Since the church is without a pastor, Craig has been asked to perform a baptism and wedding on two consecutive Sundays in April. Additionally, our team has been invited to assist this same congregation as they sponsor a Quichua Christian Music Festival in Quito on May 4-6. MTW team members will be offering six training workshops, and Craig will be preaching on the first evening of the festival. Please ask God for wisdom and strength for us in these new avenues of ministry; that He be glorified and the churches strengthened!
Praise God with us for the successful completion of MTW’s week-long Advanced Medical Leadership Training course here in Quito. During the two clinical practicum days, we were privileged to serve as translators which often provided the opportunity to counsel and pray with patients. Personally, we were greatly impacted by the vast physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients from the two poor communities served. Please pray that God would enable the sponsor churches to follow-up on patients’ physical and spiritual needs and that God would use those trained in His service in communities around the world!
In family news… we praise God that we are now enjoying a wonderful visit from Stacy’s aunt, brother and parents! Also, please pray as Karis completes her first year at school (K-4) at Alliance Academy – she’s been doing well; and she loves to socialize with her friends and teachers. Aimee… well, she’s just a sweet mess. As for the parents, in celebration of our seventh anniversary, we recently enjoyed a quiet get-away (without kiddos, of course) at a 300-year-old hacienda south of Quito!

P.S. We hope that you’ll be encouraged by the attached article which includes pictures and highlights from the medical training week! It was graciously written by our friends John and Bethanne Kinmonth who have been visiting, learning Spanish and serving in Ecuador for the last two months.
Many thanks for standing with us in prayer.
