Bill & Sherry Day - Summer Happenings
July 24, 2008

Dear Ones:

If we had any concerns that our summer would be too slow-paced, they were quickly laid down.  We are having a blessedly busy summer, full of opportunities to continue relationships with some of our ESL students.  In our last prayer letter we told about Wei accepting Christ and being baptized.  When we witness events like her baptism, it encourages us to continue in the ministry we have been called to do.  It should encourage you, too, because each one of you is a very important part of this ministry.

We had a long talk with Wei last night about reaching the Chinese community in our area through ESL.  She had some wonderful ideas, suggesting that we have a special class in the morning since so many of them own Chinese restaurants and would most likely not be able to participate in our regular evening class. We are going to visit some of the local restaurants and see if there is enough interest to consider an extra class day.

We have some events coming up that we would appreciate you praying for:
August 23 – an information meeting at Surfside PCA for fall ESL classes (Bill)
August 28-Sept 1 – ESL teacher training class at Village Seven PCA Church Colorado
Sept 4 – ESL teacher training class at Surfside PCA (Bill)
Sept 11 – Registration & Fall Opening of ESL classes – Surfside.  8 additional sites will also be starting their Fall classes
Oct. 15-21 – Belize Trip Guest Speaker for 3 night Women’s Conference (Sherry)
February – a possible team from Surfside going toBelize (Bill or Sherry)

Many of you know that we served in Papua New Guinea in the early 1990’s for several years.  We often think of our Faiwol friends and wish we could visit them.  Frank Mecklenburg, the Wycliffe translator for the Faiwol people, made a recent trip to one of the villages.  We sent several pictures and packages with him for some of our dear friends there.  Frank called a couple of nights ago to say that Mila, the literacy coordinator, sent a gift back with him for us.  Frank will be putting it in the mail soon.  We will be sure to let you know what it is!  Speaking of Papua New Guinea, I submitted the manuscript of the book I wrote on my experiences in Papua New Guinea to a published writer/friend who is looking it over.  Please be in prayer as I seek someone to publish the book.

I have had an opportunity to make a few trips to Sanford, Florida in the last few months to visit my brother, Rob, who has a terminal brain tumor.  God has been gracious to give me several opportunities to be with him and his wife, Eve.  Please continue to pray for them.

Rob and Sherry in June, 2008

We recently received word from two new families willing to pledge $25 a month.  That takes our total to 19 of the 70 pledges that we are trying to obtain, which reduces our support account shortage to $1300 a month.  In order to adjust our expenses and help our support account, we have taken a voluntary pay reduction.  This will remain in effect until we are fully supported.  This month we already saw God working in our finances and providing for some of the shortfall.  The earliest we can take our full support amount again is January. Please pray that we would be fully supported by then.

Also, because of our deficit, we cannot take funds from our account to pay for trips or for expense reimbursements.  Therefore we will need to raise the funds for the Beliz trip in October.  Sherry will need $1600-$1800 for her trip. If the Lord leads you to participate in this Belize trip, you can send donations through MTW. Please be sure to mark the check, “Sherry Day-Personal”.  If it is not marked this way, the funds will not be available for the trip.

Co-laboring along with you,

Bill and Sherry Day
