Hurricane Dean

I know that most of you heard about Hurricane Dean hitting the northern part of Belize and the Yucatan in August.  We were very concerned about our friends and “family” in Belize as we watched the weather alerts.  Thankfully we were able to make phone contact with a member of our church in San Narciso who assured us that even though there was some damage, none seemed to be catastrophic.  Bill was asked to go to Belize on the 28th of August along with another member of our church, Adam Cook, to assess the needs they might have.  It was a whirlwind trip, but significant in that they were able to bring some funds that allowed them to purchase building materials for repairs.  Bill and Adam got hot and dirty as they helped in some of the repair efforts.

Bill enjoyed surprising most of the people in the village when he showed up.  They were very excited to see the two men and grateful for their support.

We have both been invited to return to Belize in early 2008.  Bill may teach at the seminary while I would lead a woman’s Bible seminar/retreat for the interested northern Presbyterian churches. Please pray for this trip and that we can raise the necessary finances.  We cannot take funds from our support account because we are back in the negative figures again. However, we feel that our trip there is important and what the Lord desires us to do.

ESL Classes

Summer is over and the children are back in school.  ESL classes in all area sites which started in the past year or two are gearing up to begin a new year. At Surfside PCA we have some students returning for the third year of classes.  It has been a valuable experience for our teachers and staff ministering to nationals from so many different countries.  The greatest joy is seeing some of them coming to faith.  Last year there were several that the Lord added to His kingdom. We pray that we will reach many more with the Gospel this year.

Expanded ESL Opportunities

While Bill was in Belize in August he was able to meet with the MTW Caribbean Area Director, Richard Wolfe.  Richard talked with Bill about the possibility of expanding the ESL ministry we are involved in to other MTW foreign mission fields. We will be able to train MTW teams interested in using ESL as a means to help the nationals in their area receive training in English while also having opportunities to hear the Gospel.

Bill would be available, upon request by a team, to train team members and/or church leaders on site using materials that have been developed and implemented in many ESL programs throughout the U.S.  This appeals greatly to both of us because it allows us to continue working with other countries outside of the United States.

Support Update

Please keep our support in your prayers.  We have received some significant one time gifts which brought us into a positive balance, but our support level is still short by about $1800 a month. Would you please pray that this need will be met soon as we continue to participate in the Hispanic outreach ministry?

Personal News

Bobby, our oldest son, will be in Iraq by the time you receive this letter.  Pray for his safety and his family at home.   Another son, Scott, and his family moved closer to us in Sanford, NC.  It has been a great joy to spend time with him, his wife and two of our grandchildren.

Thank you for praying so faithfully for us.

Your co-laborers in Christ,

Bill and Sherry Day
