The Bill & Sherry Day Update
News for Friends, Family, and Partners

Dear Friends:

As we continue working with the ESL/Hispanic ministry we often wonder if we should change our title from “Hispanic” Ministry Coordinator to “Multi-Ethnic” Ministry Coordinator. Although the majority of the people we work with are Hispanic, we minister to a variety of other ethnic groups as well which includes Indian, Vietnamese, Brazilian and Chinese.

One of our Chinese friends cooks and helps run our local Chinese restaurant. Recently he and his wife invited us to what they called a “traditional Chinese meal”. We were served like royalty in the restaurant which they had closed for the occasion. Our first entrée was Fish Head Soup, followed by Fish Ball Soup, followed by about 10 other courses that were often unidentifiable. We decided among ourselves later that we prefer the “non-traditional Chinese meal” but were touched by their generosity and friendship. Sharing meals across cultures has been a pattern we have seen in missions that opens doors to friendship evangelism. Wah, our Chinese friend, professes to be a Christian but Wei, his wife, is a Buddhist. Please pray as we share Christ with them. They are now attending the 9:30 English service at Surfside PCA with us. Wah is one of our ESL students.

We have an 8 AM Spanish service at Surfside PCA with one family that comes faithfully and another family who comes infrequently. Pray that others would be led to join the service. Ernesto and Janette, from Colombia, and their two children come every Sunday. Ernesto plays the keyboard and guitar so we have wonderful music. Recently they came to our house asking for some help in their marriage. They came bringing all the makings of a traditional Colombian snack, some sort of corn pancakes that were delicious. We spent several hours with them encouraging them in their relationship together. Pray that God would help them work through some difficult differences between themselves.

The ESL classes will start again in September for most of the churches we are working with, including Surfside. Pray that the Lord of the Harvest will bring in many as we teach them English and represent and share Christ with them.

Many of you remember an email from us a couple of years ago about Pasi Patt in Belize. Pasi is Veronica’s husband and you know Veronica if you came as part of a team to Belize because she cooked for you! Pasi accepted Christ just a few months before we left Belize and witnessed to many because of the dramatic changes in his life. Sadly, because of all of the drinking in his past, his liver was severely damaged. Pasi entered into the Lord’s presence yesterday around 1 PM EST. Please pray for Veronica and her precious family. Veronica lost her son, Waldo, not too long ago as well.

We would also ask that you continue to pray about our support needs. We had a positive balance in our support account for a few months, but are now sliding back into a negative balance. Our monthly pledge amounts are low and we would ask that you continue to keep our ministry finances in your prayers. Also, let us know if you would like us to come and share the ESL seminar we have prepared to help churches start their own programs. We would also enjoy being part of your mission’s conference so that we can share the ministry God has allowed us to participate in.

Thank you for your partnership with us and your faithful prayers,

Bill and Sherry Day
