About The Area:
This ministry is defined as church-planting through leadership development
among non-hispanic people groups throughout Latin America. The Hinterland
ministry is presently concentrated in Peru and is working toward ministry models
that will be applicable in other parts of Latin America particularly in other
areas of Peru and in Ecuador.
There are 9 to 10 million Peruvian Quechuas who are virtually unreached with
the gospel of Christ. Counted as descendants of the ancient Incas, Quechuas are
often bound by. superstition and geographic isolation. The goal of this team is
to initiate and facilitate multi-cultural church-planting teams among four of
the Iargest Quechua-dialect groups in Peru, producing a church-planting movement
among these peoples.
Reformed missions began among the Quechuas in the Fifties and Sixties. During
the years of persecution from Shining Path terrorists in Peru, many Peruvian
church leaders were faithful in leading Christ's church; some even gave their
lives. Having an established church means that MTW can find solid national
leaders to help train other nationals. In addition, an agreement with Wycliffe
Bible Translators provides scripture and literacy translations. This allows MTW
missionaries to work as catalysts in the national church for recruiting,
training, and sending national pastors.
Radio Amauta is the ministry which reached approximately two million
listeners in both Spanish and Quechua languages. The station provides
educational and cultural programs and proclaims the gospel of Christ throughout
the mountains of southern Peru.
Mission to the World is moving ahead in projects targeted for Cusco,
Ayachucho, Huaraz, and Junin with missionary recruitment, support raising, land
purchase, and development of support-base for nationals.
Missionaries who serve in this ministry often face loneliness, isolation,
and, at present the absence of other team members to provide support and
encouragement.
